Big News for Jamaica Travel

The U.S. State Department has officially lowered Jamaica’s travel advisory from Level 3 (“Reconsider Travel”) to Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution—a welcome change for travelers and the tourism industry alike.

This brings Jamaica in line with popular destinations like France, the U.K., and Italy, and reflects improvements in overall safety and visitor readiness.

What Prompted the Change?

Jamaica had been under a Level 3 advisory since July 2024 due to concerns around violent crime and limited healthcare infrastructure. However, after a diplomatic visit in March and a commitment to reevaluate the advisory, the U.S. has acknowledged progress and followed through with this positive update.

Tourism Industry Reacts with Optimism

Sandals Resorts—one of the most well-known hospitality brands in the Caribbean—was quick to celebrate the change. EVP Gary C. Sandler said it best:

“This update brings clarity, confidence, and an undeniable sense of excitement. It reaffirms what we’ve always known to be true: Jamaica is not only one of the world’s most beautiful destinations—it is also one of the safest and most welcoming.”

He also emphasized that every visitor supports local families, fuels small businesses, and strengthens communities.

Why This Matters for You
