Understanding the UK's New Electronic Travel Authorization Process

The United Kingdom now requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for even the shortest of stays. This online pre-screening system enhances border security while simplifying travel documentation.
Who Needs an ETA?

U.S. citizens will need an ETA for:
Tourism
Visiting family
Business meetings or conferences
Short-term study (6 months or less)
Even if you're only passing through the UK on a layover!
How to Apply:

You can apply for an ETA through the official UK website or mobile app. The cost is 10 British pounds (around $13 USD). While most applications are approved quickly, processing may take up to 72 hours, so be sure to apply early. Once approved, your ETA will be valid for two years or until your passport expires—whichever comes first.
Other Entry Requirements for the UK:

A valid passport: It must cover your entire stay, and many airlines require it to be valid six months beyond your return date.
Proof of plans to leave the UK: A return flight or onward travel confirmation.
Financial support: Show you can support yourself (and dependents) during your visit.
Travel funds: Be able to pay for your return or onward journey.
